The Portland Fire have announced their 2026 schedule, letting fans know when they can plan to be at the Moda Center, and when to be at one of (surely) many local bars, restaurants, homes, and apartments for the away games.

The WNBA has announced its season schedule despite being in the middle of a collective bargaining session in which the two parties – the league and the players association – still seem far apart from making a deal. It is important to understand that this announced schedule is not guaranteed. There may still be a strike, a lockout, or a delay to what we have presented with this season.

Outside of that looming decision, let’s check in on the schedule:

Number of Games:

  • 44 game season

  • 22 home games

  • 2 in-region road games

    • @ Seattle on July 4 and

    • @ Toronto Tempo in Vancouver, B.C. on August 19th

Notable Games:

  • Opening Day will be the first game of the season: Saturday, May 9th against the Chicago Sky

  • The first Seattle @ Portland professional basketball game in any league since 2008 will happen on Wednesday, June 17th. The rivalry is back, baby.

  • Sabrina Ionescu, the Oregon Ducks legend, will play in Portland on May 12th and May 14th, the second and third games of the season (assuming she re-signs with the New York Liberty).

  • Cameron Brink will play her first game in her high-school town of Portland on August 2nd with the L.A. Sparks.

  • Other notable players’ first games in Portland:

    • League and Finals MVP A’Ja Wilson (if on current team): June 11th

    • Napheesa Collier (if on current team): August 12th

    • Alyssa Thomas (if on current team): June 5th

    • Caitlin Clark: July 31st

    • Paige Bueckers: June 13th

  • Fellow newcomers the Toronto Tempo will play their first game in Portland on Thursday, August 6th

  • Last year’s newcomers, and GM Cernovic’s old team the Golden State Valkyries come to PDX on Sunday, August 30th. The two will match up again in Portland for the Fire’s final game of the 2026 regular season.

Other Notes:

  • There will be a WNBA break in early September for the FIBA World Cup

  • The All-Star game will be held on July 25th in Chicago

  • Training camp is “slated to begin” on April 19th

  • It’s good to note that, as west coast sports fans, some games will start pretty early for us on weekdays. Get ready to leave work at 2:30PM!

  • The Fire start their inaugural season with four consecutive home games. A blessing!

  • The Fire have a home back-to-back on Friday, May 29th and Saturday, May 30th. There will be about 19 hours in between the end of one game at the Moda Center, and the start of another. Are we allowed to have a sleepover?

  • July includes just three home games all month, with long road-trips for the Fire in between.

  • The season’s final week is literally crunch time for the Fire, who will play four games in six days to close things out.

If you’d like to add this schedule to your Google Calendar, I have made one for you! I plan to have it completed shortly, and will update it with any changes announced in the future.

There is no word yet on where we will be able to watch and/or stream Portland Fire games locally or nationally. Those partnerships “will be announced at a later date”. Additionally, the pre-season schedule will also be announced later.
